I was looking for a preschool to enroll Bri in in the area and I wasn't very happy with my options. There isn't very many to choose from and they are either really expensive, really hard to get into, or they didn't teach what I thought was important. I had a small preschool in Bullfrog which the school district had hired me to teach and I still had all my supplies. I had been thinking about it for a while and finally decided to ask around and see if anyone was interested. To my surprise there were ALOT of people interested. I originally thought I would be happy with five kids, but it has grown to eleven kids, AND I have a waiting list!! I am now even considering opening another session. It has been a lot of fun, and I really enjoy it. Bri is actually my most difficult challenge lately because the coolness of having so many friends over has worn out now that she has realized that it is not just play time and she actually has to work, but I am praying she will get over it.

Each week we focus on a letter from the alphabet. It is crazy how life can get in the way. I wish I had something extremely exciting or fun to report but life has been pretty normal lately. A few weeks ago while playing a game on facebook I picked up a virus which has completely shut down my desk top and a few weeks before that Kent's laptop stopped taking any charge at all. Both fixes will cost a couple hundred dollars at least so we are now using my parents spare laptop which has its own problems. So sadly is the fact that all my pics that I have taken for the last couple years were saved on both our computers. Most of them being on my desk top and I am not sure we will ever retrieve them again. It makes me sad that the last couple years of our lives my disappear into the cyberspace universe. I do have few things that I have saved on photo bucket, but the last time I did that was almost a year ago so anything as recent as nine months ago is gone. The new pics I have taken since Halloween and Thanksgiving luckily are still on my camera, but I don't have a place to save them currently so I will have no pics on my blog for a little while until I get this problem sorted. Computers are amazing and they have done so much for our lives, but this has taken me back and made me realize that sometimes we can become too dependent on them. I never realized how much I could lose when one decided it was time to stop working for me. Nevertheless, it really hasn't slowed my computer use down much except to make me much more cautious while using facebook. Well at least I have learned that backing up your files on a separate hard drive, frequently, is a smart thing to do.

Fun with hair

Yesterday, Aurora came home from school sick (actually she never really got there, she threw up in our car pool friends van). But, after we got her all cleaned up (and the van), we decided to try entering into a hair style contest with the extra time we had in the afternoon. We decided it would be fun to do a Halloween do since its October. We figured it out, took the pictures, and then I had to leave to do some other things. Later that night, at midnight, I was getting in bed and I remembered the contest. I knew I had to finish it because Aurora would be asking me about it in the morning. My computer was moving like tar and it took forever to down load the pictures. I was working in the dark because Kent was sleeping in the bed next to me, and I was a little loopy and the words kept blurring together, but at 2:05 a.m. I sent off the e-mail.

Crazy enough, we won!!! We surprised them with their early Birthday presents a couple days before and they were sooo excited. We went shopping the day of for the perfect Hannah Montana outfits, and then we went out to eat before the concert. The kids were so happy.

As for the concert I was a little disappointed. They hated the opening act which was Death Cab for Cutie the lead singer of which is Miley's older half-brother. My husband and I like Death Cab for Cutie, but they are definitely not for my 6 and 3 year old. And as for Miley she has really grown up and the show is really more for teenagers now than most of the 10 year old and younger audience that were present. The show itself was really cool, and the kids did have fun.

.

Kent's jobs

I promised I would explain Kent's temporary absence from our family so here it is. I am happy to say that in June Kent received three offers of employment from the Clark County School district in one day. He happily choose his favorite. He decided to accept a job at O'Callaghan Middle school teaching 6th grade life science. We are all very excited about it.

We did have a problem though. He still didn't have a job for the summer, and he wasn't getting anymore subbing jobs. That is when we got a call from Kent's sister asking if there was any way he could come to Blanding for the summer to help build his dad's cabin. We have been wanting to help him for the last two summers, but our job situations haven't allowed it. He still needed a job though so he made a call to a good friend of ours in Lake Powell who is the head of HR in Bullfrog. Two hours later he got a call from Halls Crossing, Lake Powell offering him a job there in the office. Hall's Crossing is only an hour and a half away from Blanding and the plan was to work there and on his days off he would head into Blanding to work on the cabin. He left right after my grandfather's funeral in June. I was very worried about it at first. Aurora was still in school and we couldn't go with him, but we have been able to visit and the time has gone by quickly. He is coming home later this week for good, and I am so ready for him to be back. The kids have had a hard time while he has been away. Here are some pics of our visit.

Swimming off a cliff in Lake Powell.

Taking the ferry across Lake Powell to Bullfrog so we could attend church in Ticaboo (Kent changed after we got there). The second week in July he was put in as bishop of our ward. A lot of my friends have made comments about if it is weird to have my dad as bishop. Kent's teases me that I am the bishop's daughter. I don't know why he thinks that would bother me so much when I was the branch president's wife at one time. It really is not that strange. It is a little odd since we live in the same house as him, but I am 30 years old so it really isn't the same as if I was in high school. Any ways, it has been a change. The biggest difficulty is what my dad has to go through now. He has been really stressed out about it, but I think he is beginning to feel a little more comfortable. Things will get better. The weekend he was put in my grandma Shelton and my mom's sister Dianne and my Uncle Craig, and two of my dad's brothers came down for a visit with their kids. We don't see my Dad's family very often so my kids don't remember much of my uncles kids, but they had a blast getting to know them. We decided to head up to Mt. Charleston to escape the heat.

Here is Bri, she had lots of fun walking along this log as if it was a tight rope.

Here are Aurora and my cousins hiking around the mountain stream.

This is my sis-in-law Mandy and my lil' nephew Andrew.

Fourth of July and reunion

This year we had our Shelton reunion on the 3rd and 4th of July up in South Jordan, Utah. On the fourth we spent the day at my aunt and uncles doing water games, food, and our traditional auction. That night fire works. He was 79 years old. We attended his funeral on June 20th in West Jordan, Utah. The past couple years have been very hard on my grandpa and my grandma. He has been very sick and continually getting weaker and weaker due to the Parkinson's that was taking over his body. The last year he had been hospitalized on numerous occasions. So when this last bout of pneumonia hit him, we all prayed that he wouldn't suffer any more. It was hard to say good bye even though we all know we'll see him again, but we know it was for the best. It has been especially hard to look into my grandma's eyes. They were married for 53 years, and the last couple years she has been consumed with taking care of my grandpa. Her life was my grandpa. I talked to her briefly a couple weeks ago when she came down for a visit, and she told me how much she missed him. We both had a good cry. I love my grandpa so much. He did so much for us, and was always there when we needed him. I will miss most his quite chuckle, and insight on life. He had such a strong and wonderful testimony of the gospel. Love you grandpa and look forward to day when I will see you again. Kisses.

This is a horrible picture of my grandpa, but it was the only one I could find on my computer. She had a braid in her hair that was bothering her so I took it out so she could sleep easier. A few minutes later she came out of her room and said she needed to use the bathroom. She did, and when I went to help her back in bed I noticed her hair was sticking out a little weird. When I realized what had happened, I ran into her room to find pieces of her hair laying on the ground everywhere and scissors on her bed. I was so sad. Her hair takes forever to grow out, and my grandpa had just passed away and we were leaving the next day to go to his funeral. There was nothing I could do, she had to go to the hair dresser. Luckily they were able to squeeze us in.

Here is her before picture. I took this the Sunday before. Her hair was all crimped from a braid the night before, and I had teased it to give her a little poof. It was so cute we had to take a pic.

Here is the pic after she cut it. She gave herself a mullet. The other side was even worse.

Here is Brianna and my hair dresser Laura (she is awesome). Brianna had way too much fun getting her hair cut. She had a little smirk on her face the entire time, and held perfectly still for the cut, blow dry, and style.

And, here is after Laura had fixed it. It was about a week long process to get everything out and the house cleaned. I finally figured out on the last day it was because we had to spend a lot of time figuring out what to put into storage and what we could fit into my parents house, specifically what we couldn't live without. I was really slow moving at first packing because I was dreading it so much. We really are squished into this house now. Aurora and Brianna are sharing a room with my 17 year old sister, and Kent and I are holding our breath in about a 10 by 10 room where we have our bedroom and office. I will be spending my thirtieth birthday here which is where I never thought I would be at this time in my life. But now that we are all in and getting settled, things are getting back to normal. It will never be the same as our own place but it will be ok for a little while until we can figure out our next step. The kids are really enjoying being by grandma and grandpa so much.

Payin' it forward

Payin' it forward...The first 3 people to leave a comment on this post will receive a hand made gift from me during this year. We had lots of fun doing green things today. Kent made green eggs and bacon for breakfast and later I made green peanut butter chocolate chip cookies, mmmm yummy.

I have also had a lot fun doing the girls hair the last couple weeks here are a few pics. One is from Aurora today. I took this after school, but I think it held up pretty good. I was going to do Bri' too, but she is really sick today so she just got a quick pony tail. This was definitely one of my favorites from my favorite hair blog. Another is of Brianna of one I made up for her. She has very thin hair so I do what I can. Then there is Aurora from her Angelina Ballerina day. We call this the Ballerina bun. It is also one of my favorites from the blog. Links are at the bottom if you would like to learn how to do these yourself. I am also adding a link to my absolute favorite. I don't have a pic but check it out any way it looks way cute on both my girls.

Cute tween hair bun (Ballerina bun)

Three leaf clover

Triple twists with messy buns This is our personal absolute favorite hair do. Every time I do it on the girls they get complements. I will try to post a pic tomorrow.

My Angelina Ballerina

Last week was Nevada reading week, and each day of the week they had the kids at Aurora's school do different things. On Wednesday the kids were suppose to go to school dressed as their favorite story book character. One of Aurora's favorites is Angelina Ballerina. I like to give my kids a special book each year at Christmas, when Aurora was one I gave her Angelina Ballerina. It has become a family favorite. I decided to make the costume. I made the tutu the same way I did their Halloween costumes and then I attempted to make little mouse ear clips. I think they turned out pretty cute. I thought the pics turned out cute and thought I would share them.

Car for sale

I thought I would do a post letting all of you know that we are selling our car. We have been putting off selling it for a while, it is Kent's baby, but we decided if we are serious about buying a house soon than we need to lower our debt to income ratio (we have two car payments). SO a little about it. It is a silver 2005 V6 4 door Dodge Stratus. It runs fantastic and we have never had any problems at all with it. It does have a crack in the back bumper, courtesy of me backing up into with our van, but other than that it is beautiful. It has been very well maintained and has fantastic air conditioning, one big reason why we are sad to get rid of it. It has only 59,000 miles on it. We are selling it for $6,400 but are willing to negotiate a little. If you know anyone looking for a pretty car that runs grate, tell them about it. You can post a message or e-mail me about it at tibbitts_2003 @hotmail.com if you have any questions.

February

Wow, this month has disappeared. I thought that I would do a very quick over view of February since I did not post much. I have to admit the biggest reason for that was our laptop cord expired. We ordered a new one, but it took three weeks to get here. I could have used the desk top, but I love sitting in my comfy bed with my kids quietly snoring in their beds when I do my blogging.

Well most of this month was spent doing normal day to day activities like taking care of my family, babysitting, cleaning, shopping, and etc., but a lot was spent trying to figure out what are family is going to do for at least the next few years. We figured out at the beginning of this month that something was really up with the Clark County School district. Kent and his fellow science ARL teachers who were all assured at the beginning of the year that they were needed, realized that non of them were getting jobs. Las Vegas High school, where Kent was filling a science position as a long term sub, put his name in for hire three times and the school district kept kicking it back out. We knew something was wrong so we started weighing our options, and preparing for the worst. This past Thursday we got the confirmation. The school district is not hiring any more teachers because they are undergoing serious budget cuts and just can't afford it even though they are needed. After talking to his principle on Friday, Kent came to the conclusion that he was not going to waist any more of his time working as a full time sub for the sucky class he had doing all the work of a full time teacher, but not getting paid the salary nor the benefits. He is now doing day to day subbing for now, and using his time after school to find something more permanent.

We are crossing our fingers on a teaching position in Nye county school district at Puhrump Valley high school about an hour and a half away. We'll see what happens in the next couple weeks, but for now we are surviving and looking forward to what the future may bring. One thing for sure is Kent is much happier and that makes me happy.

Cool hair blog

So I have not posted very much this month. I have been pretty busy babysitting, and we havn't been doing anything very exciting as a family. I did want to point out that I added a button to an awesome website that I love. It is all about cool hair ideas for girls, and even a little about adoption. My friend Kirsten e-mailed me about it earlier this week, and I have been on it looking for new ideas every single day this week. Even Aurora, who normally for the past six years of her life fights me every day to let me do her hair, likes the website. She has had fun checking out the do's and telling me which one she wants me to do to her. It has made the mornings alot easier amazingly! I would have taken some pictures, but we are still without a camera currently. Hopefully I will be getting one soon (a late valentines present). Check out the website it is way cute!! And thank you Kirsten for the e-mail!

Yea, 6 more weeks of winter!

The famous Punxsutawney Phil was pulled out of his log today in front of 13,000 people to get a good look at his shadow, and according to the long history of Groundhogs day that means 6 more weeks of winter! I know many of you are groaning, but I have to admit I am very happy. If you live or have ever lived in Vegas, you understand, too, I am sure. The summers are so killer hot here, and spring would mean that summer is that much closer. People move to Vegas for the winters definitely not the summers. Besides, it already does feel like spring. January's average for the month was in the 60's. So I say, YEEAAAA winter, stay for as long as you want. I think I need to do a winter (rain) dance.

My little 6 year old court judge

I first have to start off by thanking all of you for your ideas and encouragement on helping Aurora with her alphabet. We are trying a few different things and she is already responding very well. I think she just needed learning to be fun again, and honestly between you and me I think her teacher is not very good. She seems to have a way of squashing all the fun out of it, and they are at school all day and very rarely get recess not even at lunch.

Well moving on if you have ever met Aurora you know within just a few minutes that she is quite the drama queen, and drama queens love being the center of attention. She is also very smart (even if she doesn't like reading). Well she had the opportunity last night to demonstrate her many talents in a way she will never forget. As many of you know my mom is currently a second year law student at Sam Boyd's School of Law at UNLV. This new semester she is taking a class in the children's court clinic. This is a very special clinic that is getting nation wide recognition. It is a special mock court that helps children get ready for their real life court appearance. Often times terrible things have happened to these children and now they are required to go in and testify against the people who may have done these things to them. I can only imagine how absolutely terrifying this experience can be. That is why the children's court clinic was established. The children go in and first learn about how a trial works. They tell the child about a story about a child who has had his bike stolen. They have the children act out the scenario with little wooden people and a model court. They teach them all about how the court works and who the different people are. They even teach them breathing exercises and how to talk to themselves if they get nervous. They then go into a real court room and get to take turns acting out the part of the judge and the witness being questioned about their bike being stolen. Law students act out the other parts.

Last night the law school put on a special fundraiser for some big wig "rich people" (as my mom put it to Aurora) to help earn more money for these special clinics. They needed some kids to demonstrate the process for the schools investors, and my mom suggested Aurora. Aurora ecstatically agreed.

We arrived an hour earlier then the investors and they went through the whole process with the kids. Here is a pic of Aurora with the court model. She is holding her favorite person from the jury.

This is during a break before going into the court room. Obviously Aurora was by far the youngest. The three others are thirteen. The one on the far left is the daughter of the professor over the kids court and the two others are her friends.

This is when Aurora acted out the part of the judge. The man was guilty no matter how good the lawyer's defense was. That's one of the lawyers in corner talking to the witness.

This is Aurora in the witness chair. The investors were in a room behind us being told all about the kids court while they began having the girls take turns doing the different jobs. They saved Aurora for the last in the witness chair so the investors would see her during the questioning. It was completely impromptu and I have to admit I was a little nervous to hear what was going to come out of her mouth. There were about 40 investors that squeezed into the small court room, but they did not mind, Aurora completely captured them! She was amazing! She did her part perfectly. From when my mom swore her in (she was the bailiff) and the lawyer having her state her name to the defendant being pronounced guilty, the audience was completely captivated. She told her story all about her purple bike with green butterflies being taken while she was in her house getting a snack. I was also captivated by her so when my mom asked if I had noticed the audience reaction I told her no. She said they swooned over every word she said. Afterwards the Professor of the clinic came to Aurora and told her "Thank you so much for making me look good!" My mom told us all the deans of the school were there too, and said "if only having a super cute and talented granddaughter could get me an A in this class." Aurora was the star of the evening and she had an absolute blast doing it!

Kindergartner help!!

SO, I am calling on all you mom's out there who have had kids in school to give me some advice. I am so frustrated right now. I just don't know what to do. Aurora is in kindergaten right now in a dual language program where she learns spanish for half the day. The problem that I am dealing with is Aurora is not advancing in her alphabet at all (I should point out it is her english alphabet)! I have been working with Aurora on learning her alphabet for over 2 years now. She started off well, but about a year ago she just did not want to do it with me anymore. I thought it was just me and she might do better with a new teacher. She went to school knowing about 20 out of 26 letters and about half of her sounds. My mom and I both noticed in October that she wasn't advancing very much, but I did not realize how bad. In November she was tested by her teachers before their track break and not only is she not advancing, but she has forgotten many of them. She does all her homework and you don't notice a difference in that accept it has become more and more sloppy and she rushes through it. Her math skills have improved and her teachers told me they think she is just better in math. Yesterday I talked to her teacher again and she told me she had to move her down to a lower group because she was not ready to move on to start reading. When you ask her about the letters, she just tells us she doesn't know and she won't try. I observed her class today which happened to be during math, and her attitude toward math is completely different. She was excited about it and finished before anyone else. Her teacher then asked her to go around and help anyone who needed it. But when it comes to her alphabet it is like pulling teeth. I am out of ideas to try, and I have to admit I am just burned out from trying to figure it out. That is when the idea came that she is burned out too. So I need some new ideas to make it fun again. Help me.

Happy Happy Happy Anniversary- 10 years WOW!

Kent and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary on January 2nd. I can't believe Kent and I have been married for TEN years. Wow, it really did go by fast. We really wanted to do something fun and cool for our tenth anniversary, but finances got in the way so we had to put away ideas like trips to Hawaii and cruises to Mexico. But we still did have a lot fun. My parents took the kids on Friday morning so we had the whole day to ourselves. We went to the temple and did a session first and then we headed to the Luxor where we rented a room. The Utes were scheduled to play their championship game at five and I promised Kent we would watch it. We watched in the hotel room and it was actually nice cuddling up to my sweetheart even though football isn't really my thing. After ten years of marriage to a huge football fan it does start to rub off on you a little, and I was excited when Utah won. After that we went out to a late dinner at my favorite restaurant, Joe's Crab shack. I think the economy is hitting everyone hard because at 9:30 on a Friday night we were the only people in the restaurant. It was cool it was like our own private restaurant just for us. We had plans to hit the strip after that, but it was eleven and we decided to head back to the hotel. One hour later we actually made it into the hotel (seriously, there is a major parking problem at the Luxor). That morning we slept in (yea, no kids) checked out at 11:00, and went out for a late breakfast at Denny's. We had a very nice time and maybe it wasn't the Bahamas but it was still pretty awesome. These last ten years have been crazy, but I wouldn't trade them for anything. And unlike some sad couples who after this long feel like their drifting away from there spouse, Kent and I have never been closer and I am very excited to see how the next ten are going to turn out.

New Years eve fun

So, this new years we did not plan very much. My parent's and most of our friends were out of town so we planned a quiet night just us and the kids. Instead of partying all night we decided to have a little fun during the afternoon. We took the girls to go hiking in Red Rock Mountains located just west of the city. The girls had a lot of fun running around and checking out animal foot prints. It reminded me of Bullfrog with the red rocks, and we even saw a little cotton tail that looked just like the ones all around our house there. I wish my camera wasn't broken! I learned I am out of shape. Kent made fun of me because we climbed up to a small overlook, and my butt was killing me the next day. Definitely time to start working out again. That night we rented Prince Caspian of Narnia for the girls. We watched it all together and ate Aurora's favorite dinner of shells and cheese (fancied up a bit for me and Kent's benefit). The girl's went to bed around ten and we stayed up and watched everything on t.v. while curled up in our nice warm bed. All in all, a very nice New Year's eve.

Sledding Christmas 2008

Christmas Break fun

So we had lots of fun this break. Unfortunately, the week before the break, a little boy I babysit broke my camera so I don't have a lot of pictures, but I will tell you about it instead. When we moved here it was right at the beginning of the summer, and as all of you who live here are aware, it is killer hot during the summer so we did not do very much. Well, we made up for it this last couple weeks.
The first weekend of the break we went to check out Lake Mead and we walked across the Hoover Dam. I wasn't sure what the kids would think, but they loved it and had a lot fun.
The Monday before Christmas we went sledding up Mt. Charleston with my brother Brandon and his daughter Lizzy, my Brother Josh, and my sister Melissa. The snow that the valley got was long gone by that time, but the mountain is 7,000 feet up and has plenty of snow (there is even a small ski resort). I thought we would drive the hour to get there, get to play in the snow for 15 min. and then the kids would be freezing and want to go home, but they had a blast. We bought three small sleds and took turns pulling the kids up a hill and dropping them. Amazingly we did not have one single catastrophe. The kids laughed and played for more then an hour. I found out that sledding isn't good when your ribs are still healing. Grandma Walton thought ahead and sent us with hot water and cocoa for hot chocolate when we were all done. Thanks to my brother I do have some pics of this.

My husband is soooo cool

I just had to do a quick post telling you all how totally cool my husband is. Kent is usually very busy, but school is out for Christmas and he finished his college and school district classes last week so it has been nice to have him around this week. Last Friday I was doing the dishes and I felt water dripping on my feet. I looked under the sink and found that a pipe had completely come off and water was just spilling into the cabinet below the sink. Of course I could not finish the dishes. Kent fixed the sink on Saturday, but we were gone on Sunday so I still didn't get the dishes done. Monday came and there was a huge pile of four days worth of dishes in my sink. Well, my husband got up and did them!! He ended up doing 3 loads of dishes that day and he even did 4 loads of laundry. I was still recovering from my bronchitis and bruised ribs so it was so nice for him to do that. It doesn't stop there. He has done the dishes three more times this week and he has even cooked three times. It has been so nice having him home this week and my ribs are finally almost completely better and I think it is mostly because of all his help. Thank you sweet heart. I love you so much.

Being sick sucks

So I have been trying to get over being sick for no joke 6 weeks now. It started off as a really annoying cold that quickly turned into an even more annoying cough that just wouldn't go away. This has been like the worst most horribly irritating cough ever. It got so bad that 2 weeks ago I bruised my ribs from coughing so much, and Kent had to start wrapping my ribs. We don't have insurance and I was sure if I did go to the doctor they would just tell me it was a virus so I wanted to "tough it out" (plus I hate medicine). Well, a week and a half ago while walking home from picking up my niece from school I coughed so hard that I felt a pop in my rib cage. The pain that followed was so excruciating that I could barely walk the last few feet across my yard into my house. Once inside I luckily found my phone just inside my house and called my mom for help. She luckily didn't have school and was able to immidiatly come over. The kids I babysit just kept asking me if I was ok because all I could do was stand as straight as I could and barely move a muscle. My mom stayed with the kids and my dad took me to the UMC insta care. 3 hours and 4 prescriptions later (yuk!!) I got home. After two breathing treatments and some steroids I was feeling a lot better. It could have been worse the doctor was worried I had a collapsed lung and insisted on an x-ray. Everything was fine I have bronchitis which irritated my asthma that hasn't bothered me since I was a kid and I strained some ligaments in my ribs. Unfortunatly the medicines don't work fast and I am still fighting it, but it is getting a lot better. My ribs really are the most irritating now that my cough is a lot more under control. I keep reirritating them. I am excited to be finally almost over this. Yea!!!

A Snow Day in Vegas

So I know everyone has already posted about the snow day here in Vegas, but I am just now getting my chance to say a comment or two about it. SO most of you probably already heard that it snowed here in Vegas on Wednesday. I really do have to admit that it did snow longer than I have ever seen here in Vegas, and it was pretty cool. It started about 1:30 in the afternoon and just kept going until about 8:00 pm. But we live in the Eastern lower part of the valley so it took about 2 hours of non stop snowing before it actually started to stick. In the end we ended up with about 3 in of snow. The southern part of the valley, like in Henderson, got quite a bit more. My brother works in Henderson and when he got out of work there was about 6 in of snow covering his car. We did not have enough to build a snow man, but Kent and the girls made snow balls and put them in the freezer. I have to thank my husband for that great idea because now I am constantly moving the snow balls out of my way to find the food, and Brianna loves her little snow ball so I don't have the heart to throw it back outside.

So what I have to laugh about is that at 8:00 that night the school district declared thursday a snow day. This was the first snow day in Vegas in about 30 years. It did not make a difference to Aurora becuase she is on track break, but Kent got the day off. Normally that would be cool, but Kent is still technically a substitute until January so that just meant an extra day without a pay check this month which is already shortened due to christmas break. What is funny though is that here there was hardly any snow on the streets and by 8 in the morning there was nothing left but a tiny bit on the grass. What is even more ironic is that when we lived in Utah I never heard it declared a snow day and there was always way more snow then we had. Kent and I just had to laugh about it.

Tagged- A Little About me

For those of you who already saw Emily's version of this that I accidentally posted yesterday, sorry here is mine. I have to tell you a funny annoying story I spent 45 minutes yesterday doing this and then when I went to post it my Internet went down because of a storm. I did not know if it worked until late last night. That is when I discovered that it did post, but just not mine, and everything I did was lost. So here it is again, and hopefully it will work this time (I am saving it over and over again just to be safe).

A--Attached or Single: Attached of course, remember 10 year anniversary coming up.
B--Best Friend: My mom
C--Cake or Pie: Depends, I am more of an ice cream, donut fan.
D--Day of Choice: I know it is weird, but I would have to say Mondays. It's my day off from babysitting so it is my get things done and relax day.
E--Essential Item: Right now it is my Mary Kay Satin lip set (my lips get really dry during the cold weather), and my inhaler (I have bronchitis which has inflamed my 20 year old asthma).
F--Favorite Color: Blue and pink
G--Greatest Accomplishment: Raising two adorable little girls without too many catastrophes.
H--Hometown: I use to say Las Vegas, NV until my husband pointed out that I only lived in Las Vegas for 7 years (now 7 1/2 since I'm back), and I have lived in Utah for a combined total of 22 years.
I--Indulgences: Anything home baked, cookies, bread, brownies, and don't forget my favorite pumpkin chocolate chip cookies.
J--January or July: It use to be July, but the 115 degree Vegas summers put a damper on that so I am going to say January for now besides that is when my anniversary is.
K--Kids: Aurora EliAnn, and Brianna Skyler Tibbitts
L--Life is incomplete without: The three F's, Family, Friends, and a little Fun.
M--Marriage Date: January 2nd, 1999
N--Number of Siblings: 4 Kyle, Brandon, Joshua, and Melissa
O--Oranges or Apples: Oranges, but Apples are really good dipped in peanut butter.
P--Phobias or fears: Anything terrible that could happen to my kids.
Q--Quotes: Families are Forever (simple but so important).
R--Reason to Smile: A clean house, happy kids, and a good book to relax with.
S--Season: Fall, I love the leaves changing and getting out my warm cozy sweaters, but by the time spring comes around I am ready for my capri's again.
T--Tag 5 Friends: How about 6- Kirsten, Erin, Whitni, Chelsea, Melissa T, and Melissa H.
U--Unknown facts about me: I always enjoy a good party every once in a while.
V--Very favorite store: The Children's Place outlet store, and Down East Outfitters in St. George.
W--Worst habit: Procrastinating, but I am getting better.
X--X-ray or Ultra Sound: I haven't had good experiences with either lately. But, I will say ultra sound because it usually is used for something good like looking at your baby. X-ray means something bad like checking for a collapsed lung or pneumonia.
Y--Your favorite food: Chicken Alfredo, or King Crab, both very good.
Z--Zodiac: Taurus

Prayers for our friend Kirsten

I just wanted to do a quick post for my friend Kirsten. On Tuesday she suffered from what doctors thought was a stroke. She was luckily talking to a friend on the phone when it happened. Her friend could tell something was wrong and asked her. Kirsten just said something was really wrong and then the phone went dead. Her friend thought quickly and called for an ambulance. Kirsten lives in Delta, UT and they rushed her and Robert up to Utah Valley hospital where they admitted her and began running tests. Her whole left side was paralyzed and numb and she confused her speech which is why they assumed stroke. The CAT scan and MRI came back negative though so they are now calling it a complicated migraine, but they really do not know what it is. She is now recovering. They released her last night, her feeling is coming back in her body and she is able to talk, but she is still very week. Friends and family are taking care of the kids and helping her out. I am asking everyone at this time who knows Kirsten and Robert to please take the time now to pray for her and her family. She is only 30 years old and has 3 little kids, the youngest only 6 months old. Also I think it would be nice if everyone takes a little time now and post a little message of love and support on her blog. I think when she is feeling better reading those will help her know how many people love and care for her. We love you Kirsten!!!
Her blog is dewyzefamily.blogspot.com.

Twilight pics

Hi everyone so I am finally posting my pics from opening night of Twilight. We all had a lot of fun. When I saw it the second time, it really was a lot better. My mom saw it with us and said it was fantastic and loved it. She has never read the books because she is very busy with law school, but her last final is tomorrow so I am going to try and get her to read it during her break. First pic, starting from top left and going clock wise- My sister in law Erica, my sister Melissa, friend Mallery, Me, my friend Nicki, and last friend Katie.

Oh, Christmas tree! This Thanksgiving was spent with family, old friends, and new. We got to spend time with some old friends of ours Kirsten and Robert DeWyze who were in town visiting her family. We had a lot of fun with them. My kids keep talking about their friends Karalee and Leon, and keep asking when we can go visit them.
We had Thanksgiving dinner at my parent's house. It was the first time in I don't know how long that all my brothers and sisters were together for the holiday. It was a full house.
We also got to meet Josh's new girlfriend Ilse (pronounced Eel-say, that's how she told me). She is adorable. We had a fantastic time with her. She is not only beautiful (remember UNLV homecoming queen this year), but she is funny, smart, and she loves Twilight just as much as we do. We spent Thanksgiving with her, and then Josh brought her and her little sister to our house on Saturday. Melissa came over too, and we introduced Ilse to the game of "Kent Always Wins" (scum). We had a lot of fun, and I think Josh is getting pretty attached to her. There is not a day that goes by that he doesn't tell me how awesome she is. We'll just have to see what happens. Well, I hope you all had a wonderful time too.

Twilight Review

So I am finally writing my review of the movie. I have been very busy this weekend. So I have to admit I was a little disappointed in the movie at first, but after digesting it over few days I am liking it a little more. The fact is movies are never as good as the books. They just have to take out so much to fit it into 2 hours. I thought I was prepared for that, but it still takes some getting use to. When I first left the movie I would have given it a 3 out of 5, now maybe a 4. A friend of mine said when you first see the movie you are comparing it to the book no matter how hard you try not to so you have to see it again now that you are prepared for what is going to happen and then maybe you'll getter a more unbiased opinion of it. My brothers girl friend got him to go with her and he has not read the books. He said that it was pretty good. So I think that he is the best judge, and he isn't even a teen girl. Well we are all going back on Saturday my mom wants to see it so I will let you know if it gets better. I suggest to everyone who hasn't read it or seen it but is thinking about it, go see the movie first and then read the books you will be happy you did.

Only hours left!! And my friend Nikki.

So I have to apologize. I said I was going to write something every night until the premier and sadly yesterday I fell short, but to my defense I had a fantabulous Mary Kay class where I sold $500 in product and had a ton of fun. Unfortunatly, I think I have a sinus infection, and by the time I got home after 10 I was dead. But, I am happy to say that the premier is tonight!!! Only a few more hours left. We even have a new addition to our group.
Last night at my mk class I saw that my fabulous hostess Nikki had the entire collection of Stephenie Meyer books on her shelf. I asked her about it and we got in a discussion about the movie. She said she was way excited and wanted to go too. Now I have to tell you all a little about my friend Nikki. Nikki is a little 58 year old lady with some severe physical illnesses. She is so sick that she says that she should have died 6 years ago, but by a miracle Heavenly Father has kept her alive. She is one of the sweetest and stongest women I have ever met. She has to be on oxygen all the time and she is just now after all these years able to move a little about her house without a wheel chair. But through it all, Nikki is one of the most positive people I have ever met and has learned to enjoy life in the moment so you never have any regrets. Well, I went home and looked up online to find out if there were still tickets and there still were. So now Nikki is going with us. She is thrilled and is more stoked than any of us about joining all those screaming girls. I am so lucky to be a part of this wonderful ladies life. I will post pics tomorrow.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://thetibbittsfam.blogspot.com/2008/11/only-hours-left-and-my-friend-nikki.html' title='Only hours left!! So in honor of it, I changed the background and will be saying a little something about the movie each day until it is here. Melissa and I bought our tickets today for the 12:01 am showing at Sam's Town. My sister-in-law Erica is also going along with Melissa's friends Katie and Mallery. We are all so stoked. I know it is extremely dorky to be so excited about a "Tween" flick, and I never thought I would ever be like this for vampires, but the books really are addicting and a lot of fun to read. I really hope the movie does the books justice. If anyone would like to join us early Friday morning, you can buy your tickets at Fandango. Hurry, they are going fast. The more of us the more fun it will be. So come scream and swoon with the rest of us. We love the Cullens!

Our week- movies, babysitting, and football

So I have been wracking my brain trying to come up with something interesting to talk about this week, but I felt like I was coming up short. Then I realized why. It is because I have been so busy. Disclaimer- I decided to type this all up on one post and cut and paste it on to different posts, but for some reason I can not get it to work so sorry it is so long.

High School Musical 3
Monday and Tuesday was a veterans holiday break. We didn't really do anything monumental with the four day weekend so on Tuesday afternoon My sister and I took Aurora, Brianna, and my niece Elyzabeth to see High School Musical 3. They loved it, and I am sure they bothered everyone in the theater because they wouldn't stay in their seats. They just had to dance to every song. I actually enjoyed it too. I thought it was better then the first two.
Of course I forgot the camera so I have no picks. Sorry.

Babysitting
Wednesday I then began babysitting two more kids. A five year old boy who is in Aurora's class at school and his two year old little brother. Their mom drops them off at 6:00 AM (I am not a morning person), but it has been working out ok so far. I take Aurora and the five year old to school at nine and then pick them both up after school. Their mom picks them up at four so I mostly just have the two year old and he is usually pretty sweet. The girls are working on princessing him up, but he doesn't want anything to do with it. It has been different being around a little boy so much. They really are very different from little girls. I am having to remember what to do with him to keep him busy. It's not all princess' and dolls anymore. Although we have discovered he does like our fisher price family doll house. =)

High school football
Friday night we went to Las Vegas High Schools play off game. Teachers and their families always get in free and they do a barbecue for us. How can you not go when there is free food involved and you are living off a teacher income? We also get special seating on the north end of the field. The girls love it because they get to run and play with all the other kids we just have to make sure they don't run on to the game field which Brianna tries to do sometimes. Brianna's favorite part is giving all the players high fives as they run on and off the field. Vegas beat Green Valley 45 to 32. Goooo Vegas, take it all the way to finals!
Well that is just a little bit of our week. hope your week was good, too. ;)

Tagged- My Amazing Hubby

Well, I was tagged by my friend Melissa Thatcher to tell everyone a little about my husband and why he is the most amazing guy; thus, making me the luckiest women ever.

So what makes my man so amazing? I could say all the generic things like Kent is hard working (which he is), or a good provider for our family (which he is), or a wonderful husband and father (which he is), but that just wouldn't convey how amazing he really is. We are about to have our 10 year anniversary on January 2nd (man that makes me feel old), and we have had are share of trials and frustrations. In those 10 years we have moved 11 times. Three of those moves I was pregnant and 2 of them we had a brand new baby. Nine of those moves have been in Aurora's life time. Most of those moves were not of our choosing, but through it all he has been so very patient and he has never given up that someday things would work out and we would finally find our niche in life. 3 years ago neither of us would even have imagined that he would become a teacher in the end. A year ago last September he had one of his biggest surprises happen to him; he was called to be Branch president in the tiny town we were living in in Bullfrog, Utah. But, even with being a first year teacher and raising a young family he never gave up doing what he could for us nor the branch. He juggled everything without complaining too much ;). When we finally thought we had found our place in life for at least a few years, we got another shock and realized we had to move again. Heavenly Father still had other plans for us, and knew we needed to be somewhere else. This was hard for me, but Kent was so strong and knew everything would work out. In June we picked up again and moved out of state to my home town of Las Vegas, Nevada. In September we had another major shock to our system. After having my annual routine pap test I got a call from my doctors office informing me that there was a high chance that I may have cervical cancer. It totally took me by surprise and almost derailed me, but Kent was so amazing through it all. There was more than one time that I ended up crying on his shoulder, and he would just hold me and tell me that everything was going to be ok. He is my rock. He was there for me through the painful, embarrassing tests, and all the doctor visits, and he was right everything was ok. The biopsy came back negative. I am not quite done with all the tests, but he is always there for me and the kids, and there is no way I could have got through any of this without him. I love him so much. We are now beginning a new journey in our life. We will hopefully be moving again in the next few months into our very first own home. It is going to be crazy, but hopefully wonderful, and Kent will be there again to make sure we all get through it without too many disasters. He truly is the most amazing guy out there.

I now TAG Mandy Walton, Monica Bird, Melissa Hughes, and Marlaine Mitchell to take the time and write down why your man is so amazing, and make sure you let me know what you come up with. See if you can beat my guy; good luck trying =).

My Lil' Bro and Sweet princess'

So my little brother Joshua came home from his mission in September, and these are some pictures from his homecoming. He is availiable girls ;). But he did recently begin dating the homecoming queen from UNLV, so you might have to hurry. Well, my girls had fun getting to know there fun uncle again. Brianna was only 11 months old when he left so she just knew him from our prayers for him. She kept calling him Kyle for a while, and I have to admit he is beginning to look alot like my brother Kyle. Now every time he comes to our house they yell at him that he can't play Halo because he always kicks them off the tv, but they love him anyways. I had to put this picture of the girls on here. These are their dresses from my cousins wedding where they were flower girls. We 1st visited Aurora at her school for their annual kindergarten Halloween parade and party on October 30th. In Nevada they have October 31st off from school because it is Nevada day. Aurora thinks it is very cool that they don't have to go to school on Halloween. We spent Halloween voting, and get ready for the trunk or treat at our church. The kids enjoyed going around the cars and seeing all there friends and it was especially nice being with my family for the holiday. The only Halloween we have been with them was when Brianna was born and I came home from the hospital so the girls had fun showing off their costumes for them. These are pics of the school party with Aurora and some of her friends David and Jasmine, my mom and dad, my brother Josh, and are family. The girls wanted to be fairies this year. I made their costumes for them except their wreaths which my grandma made for them when they were flower girls for my cousins wedding. They worked perfectly for their costumes and I think they turned out to be the cutest little pixies ever. I went as a gypsy again and Kent says he was a Ute basketball fan.

Louisiana Trip 08

Kent posted this in the middle of the night yesterday and surprised me with it in the morning. When I saw it, I asked him why he did not post a message with it, and he told me that writing was my area of expertise. So, I am now adding a little note of explanation to this blog for all of you that were questioning it. We actually went on this trip to Louisiana the day before Christmas last year. So many things happened this year, we are making up for lost time. Kent's brother Don lives in Plaquemine, Louisiana which is just across the Mississippi river from Baton Rouge. We had never visited him before so we decided to go with Kent's parents for Holiday break. So we loaded up the mini van and headed cross country. The two week long trip consisted of driving for 6 days, and visiting friends, family and the cool sights the rest of the time. This is actually just a few of the pics; we took over 150 pictures during the trip. These pictures include me and Kent's trip to the french quarter at New Orleans with his Dad (Grandma kept the girls entertained at Don's house), a trip to the wild animal park with the whole family, pics with the cousins (Sydni, Haley, Grant and Gabriel), a visit to a swamp (How often do you get to see a swamp when you live in the middle of the desert?), and we were even able to see some friends of ours Trevor, Whitni, and Aisling Wright who moved there from Utah a couple years ago. We had a ton fun, and if we could afford it, we would pile in the van again for another visit this Christmas.

October Birthdays

The month of October is a very crazy month for us. We have three of our four birthdays in this month. Kent's is on October 11th, Aurora's is on the 19th, and Brianna's is on the 29th. Aurora turned 6, Brianna turned 3, and Daddy turned.... well we won't say because that just makes me feel old. Luckily I will always be 2.5 years younger then him. Some how Kent has a way of convincing all his students and even other faculty members that he is under 25. He is a pretty good liar. We just had a small party for Kent with my family with the traditional cake and presents, but it was nice. The girls and I gave him a Russian tortoise for his classroom, but for some reason it has become a family pet and never made it to the school. We did a much bigger combined party for the girls. It was a Haunted Halloween Costume Party. It was a ton of fun and turned out very cute. They stuffed there own scarecrows, made spiders out of goodies, had a candy corn toss, and of course a pinata. All the kids really enjoyed themselves, and thank all of you for coming and helping out. The girls got so many presents it was like Christmas morning in my living room for 3 days after. Of course I forgot my camera so when I get the pics from my mom I will add them to the blog. These pictures are actually on Brianna's birthday. That is of course Aurora, then my little niece Alyssa, Brianna, then my niece Lizzy (I babysit Lizzy and Alyssa on weekdays) Kent is in the background on the phone telling us to be quiet.

My Twilight Obsession

So as many of you know and some of you may not. We have moved so much I thought this would be a fun way to let all our friends and family across the country see how are family is doing. I don't have alot of free time so I won't be able to spend too much time on it, but maybe I can post something every couple weeks.
